Play With a Drummer

For anyone who writes music of almost any type, creating and performing independently is great, but it does come with some limitations.  For example, you don't get to play that music with other musicians!  Many singer-songwriters have written music but have never played it with a live professional drummer.  It can be a little daunting and intimidating to not only bare your soul musically but also have someone else contribute.

In this master class, Brandon Weil will work with up to 6 songwriters individually on their songs.  Brandon has played drums in various bands and genres for over 25 years.  This will be a safe, non-judgmental creative space where songwriters can observe the collaboration between a songwriter and a drummer as it happens live.

Musicians who sign up to work with Brandon will send a link to the song or mp3 they want to collaborate on, so that Brandon can get a quick feel and be at least familiar with it.  Each songwriter will get 15 minutes of time to collaborate with Brandon on a basic drumset, with the songwriter directing the flow and goals of the session.  You want a simple beat for a song you wrote years ago, great!  You want a 15-minute improvisational jam session with a drummer? That works too... and really anything in between.

Musicians who sign up to observe the master class will get a front-row seat to the creative process that will help them in their future collaborations with drummers and other band members.  You’ll see how a drummer listens and contributes in a variety of situations, and bring your own questions to discuss with a seasoned drummer and a community of songwriters.
