Songwriters in Seattle ("SiS," "we," "us") is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit. This page explains what information we collect through this website, why, and what you can do about it. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legalese.
What we collect
Account information. If you create an account: your name, email address, and password. We never see or store your password in plain text, only a secure one-way hash. If you sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple, or a passkey instead, we get your name and email from that provider, not a password.
Profile information you add. A bio and profile photo, if you choose to add them.
Event activity. RSVPs, showcase applications, comments you post on events, and attendance records.
Payments. If you pay for an event or make a donation, our payment processor Stripe handles your card details directly. We never see or store your card number. We keep a record of the transaction itself (amount, date, what it was for) tied to your account.
Mailing list. If you opt in, your email is added to our mailing list, hosted on our own server, so we can send occasional announcements. You can opt out at any time from your account settings or the unsubscribe link in any email.
Technical information. Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) and error reports from our error-monitoring tool, which may include some technical details about your browser session to help us find and fix bugs.
Why we collect it
To run the site and our events: creating your account, processing RSVPs and payments, sending you information you've asked for, keeping the site secure and working, and improving it over time. That's it. We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you for any other purpose.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers we use to run the site, and only as much as each one needs to do its job:
- Stripe — payment processing
- Google, Facebook, Apple — only if you choose to sign in with one of them
- Amazon Web Services — hosting and file storage
- Sentry — error monitoring
- Cloudflare — spam and bot protection on our signup form
We don't sell your personal information, ever, to anyone, for any reason. We don't share it with advertisers. If we're ever legally required to disclose information — for example, a valid subpoena — we'll disclose the minimum required by law and tell you first, unless we're legally prohibited from doing so.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to protect our signup form from spam. We don't use cookies for advertising or to track you across other websites.
Your rights
Whatever your local law's exact list of rights, we apply these to everyone who uses this site, regardless of where you live:
- See what we have. Ask us and we'll tell you what information we hold about you.
- Fix it. Update your name, email, and profile from your account settings at any time.
- Delete it. Ask us to delete your account and personal information, and we will — except for records we're required to keep for legal or accounting reasons, like payment history.
- Take it with you. Ask us for a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Say no. Opt out of the mailing list, or skip social sign-in and passkeys entirely — email and password sign-in is always available.
None of these cost anything, and using them will never result in worse treatment from us. To exercise any of them, email info@songwritersinseattle.com.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information promptly, except for records we're required to retain, such as financial records tied to payments or donations, which we keep as long as the law requires.
Children
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll post the update here with a new "last updated" date. We won't use information we've already collected in a way that's materially different from what this policy said at the time, without asking you first.
